A
few words about loading and installing StarTraX.
When you click on the download link below, your browser
will download the Microsoft Windows installer file "StarTraXInstaller{v.s.s.b}.msi"
which contains the StarTraX program. You will be prompted to open or save the
file. When you open it, it will be opened by the Window Installer program which
will then allow you to install StarTraX on your computer.
StarTraX is built on Microsoft's .NET framework and
requires the .NET 2.0 framework to be installed on your computer. If it is not
currently installed, then the installer will walk you through the process of
installing .NET 2.0 from the Microsoft web site. (If that's all a bit geeky,
sorry - the message is: "Don't be worried if you find you're installing
Microsoft .NET - it's OK.") This may take a minute or two, please be
patient, it'll all be worth it in the end!
Once it's installed, you'll find a StarTraX directory in
your "Program files" directory - or wherever else you choose to
install it. Also there, you'll find some of my sample GPS track files (.gpx and
.plt) in a directory called StarTraX\StarTraXData. These are for you to
play with until you have some of your own plot files.
The program you download is the Standard Edition, un-registered version.
It has the full functionality of the registered version. The limitation is that
the animation only runs for 4 minutes before exiting. All other features of the standard edition are
fully implemented. You can get a free registration key by completing the form on the Registration page.
The Premium Edition provides significant additional features which are fully explained in the User Notes. Refer to the Premium Edition page for details of how to activate the Premium Edition features.
When you download and install the StarTraX installation file you will find a useful user manual called UserNotes.PDF in your StarTraX installation directory.
With release 2.2.1, StarTraX is now compatible with Windows 7.
